It was yet another chilly day atop Mt. Blizzard and I decided to get my morning hot cocoa from the Snowmelt Shop. My friend, Pen Penguin, was waiting there for our interview. Pen Penguin is a Level 19 penguin who has completed all of Rookie’s adventures. Pen has also been waddling around since the Club Penguin Island geo-beta test throughout winter 2017. We decided to meet today to discuss lots of aspects of the new Rookie adventures recently released on Club Penguin Island in the latest 1.4 update released on Wednesday.

Pen Penguin’s thoughts on Rookie Adventures so far

“I found them really fun”, Pen Penguin told me as he took a first sip of the cocoa. “They added a lot of new stuff but I found these adventures easier in comparison to Rockhopper’s or Aunt Arctic’s adventures”. Rockhopper’s offering of adventures is mainly based around pirate exploration, meanwhile Aunt Arctic’s adventures… they’re top secret.

That’s what I noticed. I guess it makes it easier for the younger players.

Character development in Rookie adventures

“Out of all the characters in these adventures, Jet Pack Guy has to be my favourite” – after hitting the slopes, Pen revealed to me which character personality he was enjoying most. Pen Penguin commented that Jet Pack Guy in Club Penguin Island had a much more interesting personality and overall character, and how he appeared more “tough”.

I guess we got to know more about him

Commenting on his new look as a lifeguard at Coconut Cove, Pen said that it felt “weird, since I’m used to seeing him as an agent”. In classic Club Penguin, Jet Pack Guy was well known by his prominence in PSA and EPF missions with a secret agent suit – meanwhile he takes a much less classified role in CP Island. “I hope he has a secret agent suit somewhere, that would be interesting”.

Pen’s favourite moments and puzzles from Rookie Adventures

We headed to Gary’s Lab to mess around with the Multitool. “The last episode of the adventures has to be my favourite. Parts of it were especially exciting – like the finale at the end. I didn’t expect that”, Pen said with an emoji. Rookie’s adventures were filled with unexpected moments, some of which were a bit comical. The adventures are very reflective of the Rookie personality we have come to know and love through the classic game.

The ending of Episode 5 was emotional I guess?

I personally found the puzzles in the adventures quite fun. Pen stated that, “There weren’t any difficult puzzles – most were very simple”. “I enjoyed finding hidden items”, a statement of which I agreed with, “and some of them took a while, but most of them were easy”. Scavenger hunts were an element of other mascot adventures, however Pen agreed with the suggestion that they were overused.

On the other hand, puzzles such as obstacle courses found in Aunt Arctic’s Chapter 2 adventures, proved popular with Pen Penguin. Seeing more of those would certainly be a welcome addition to the game’s adventures.

What does the future hold for Rookie?

This is only the first chapter in what should be many more chapters of Rookie adventures to come. The potential for even more exciting antics with Rookie is unlimited. I suggested that perhaps Rookie may do secret agent adventures, Pen replied, “Possibly”. Ready to play Marble Hunt by the Runoff Rapids, Pen asked me if I remembered the underwater party. In January 2012, Rookie sunk half of the Island with anvils, revealing an underwater maze for the penguin community to explore. A lot of inspiration was taken from this party to form the Sea Caves on Club Penguin Island.

I would love to see him sink the island

“It would be cool”, Pen said, before lifting the chest up into the air for a round of Marble Hunt – a new mini-game on the Island.
