Prepare for the “climb of your life” at the Mountain Expedition.
Hey penguins,
In August 2010, penguins prepared for “the climb of their lives” in the Mountain Expedition – a tough trek up Toughest Mountain to discover what was at the top. This party was my first as a member on classic Club Penguin and I remember experiencing it with fond memories and I’d love to share it with you today.
GET READY FOR THE MOUNTAIN EXPEDITION
The storyline of the party was that two brave jetpack penguins saw some mysterious mountains while flying around on their latest adventure, with their jetpacks unable to reach the top. Penguins were called upon from August 13 until August 19 to tackle the Toughest Mountain.
THE ICE CAVERN
This party was especially fun with all the activities hikers had to complete to reach the top. This was also the first party from which penguins could earn special Stamps for completing the puzzles. The first puzzle courageous hikers would face was in the Ice Cavern.
As you can see above, there were eight giant icicles blocking the end of this ferocious cavern, with penguins having to click the icicles in order for them to move away. I personally found this puzzle very challenging since the puzzle was not as simple as it seems. As you clicked an icicle, some would be drawn back meanwhile some would reappear, making it particularly challenging to solve. Many penguins turned to community blogs and videos, or even their fellow penguins and the humble snowball for help.
BASE CAMP
Climbers were exhausted, and very cold, following the chills and thrills of the Ice Cavern, therefore a Base Camp was setup half-way up the Toughest Mountain. Awaiting them was a toboggan with fish, pizza and a blanket, a tent with pots and pans, tea and an armchair, a Rescue Squad kit and a pet goldfish. I wonder what its name was…
I remember using my hard hat, jackhammer and laptop at Base Camp to try access the Internet on Toughest Mountain. I don’t really recall why, but we’re on Club Penguin. Anything can happen.
THE MOUNTAIN
The final phase of a penguin’s hike had arrived. This room was simply known as the Mountain and was, in my opinion, the most fun. The objective was to take the branch and use it to sweep snow away from the axe. Penguins then had to use the axe to chop down the tree and then throw snowballs at the icicles, catapulting the log across the gap to form a bridge to help penguins reach the Toughest Mountain’s summit: territory no penguin had ever visited before… until now!
SECRET ICE CAVE?!
Oh, penguins could also access a hidden Ice Cave room from the final puzzle. I didn’t discover this secret room back in 2010, but it sure looks awesome! Though I wonder… which clumsy viking managed to sail their ship all the way up the steepest, scariest mountain in all of Club Penguin?
Club Penguin always used to include secret, hidden areas in a few parties, with the most recent example in the Cave Maze of February 2016. Penguins had to jackhammer at a weak bit of rock in the maze to discover a dance party, woop woop!
THE SUMMIT
After a long, tough trek, penguins with stamina and determination finally reached the Mountain’s Top. Players could claim a special red flag item and background to signify their victory, and indulge on a Fishdog. It’s so cool to see that pretend food items from classic Club Penguin have come to life as real food on Club Penguin Island – another reason why I LOVE the new CP Island game so much!
This party was brought back one year later as “The Great Snow Race” of 2011 which featured an EPF laser maze in Operation: Hibernation, a few new additions to existing rooms featured in this post and an exclusive extreme Sled Racing track! One of my favourite parties for sure.
I hope you enjoyed this waddle down memory lane back to a party which holds a very special place in my heart. Did you enjoy taking a look back at the Mountain Expedition? Would you like to see more Throwback posts like this? Be sure to let me know by leaving a comment!
Until next time…
